The Institute of Vector-Borne Disease (IVBD) falls within the Office of the Provost and Senior Vice-President. The primary purpose of the Institute is to lead the University’s research efforts in eliminating diseases such as dengue fever and Zika. This Institute houses the World Mosquito Program (WMP) within Monash University, an international collaborative research program designed to prevent the transmission of arboviral diseases threatening the health of people living in tropical and subtropical regions, aiming to improve global health worldwide.  

WMP are currently operating in 12 countries around the world and expanding. They have two regional hubs – the Asia hub in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and the Oceania hub, based at the Institute of Vector-Borne Diseases (IVBD) in Melbourne, Australia.
The Senior Media & Public Relations Advisor role will be based within the Oceania hub in Melbourne reporting into Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

The Opportunity

The World Mosquito Program is seeking an experienced Senior Media & Public Relations Advisor to join their international Communications and Engagement team to help manage and further develop their presence across multiple platforms.

This new fixed-term opportunity will be part of the communications team that reports directly into the Communications and Engagement Director based in Vietnam. This role will be responsible for developing content and written materials with oversight in media-related strategies on brand development.

As the successful candidate, you will provide specialist, expert advice to senior management to develop and produce high-quality, informative, and interesting press releases across multiple platforms. Expertise in media and public relations across campaigns and business development will be desirable as you will have the responsibly of delivering WMP brand content to different media outlets.

We are needing a professional that can seek high-level placements across online media, broadcasts and print - implementing WMP strategic plans while leveraging off existing relationships and contacts within the University.

The ideal candidate will have excellent events management experience along with press conference and VIP exposure and previous experience working in traditional media & PR channels and creative thinking with a strong ambition.

A degree in journalism, communications or marketing with proven experience editing for print and online publishing and with the ability to build effective working relationships with key stakeholders will be highly advantageous.  

This position may require travel within the different regional Hubs.
